Residence permit for highly qualified EU Blue Card professionals and their families.
Required:
- the existence of a labor contract corresponding to the status of a highly qualified specialist, with a term of not less than 1 year,
- gross annual income in the amount of not less than 73 thousand 998 euro or 59 thousand 149 euro for IT specialists, within the list determined by the government,
- status of permanent residence after 5 years of residence in the country,
- application for citizenship after 5 years of residence in the country, subject to the conditions of the integration agreement.
Conditions for obtaining a residence permit:
- sufficient financial resources
- housing in Luxembourg (long term rental or property),
- medical insurance,
- no threat to public order and security.
Key points:
- availability of a document confirming the high professional qualifications of the applicant,
- the possibility of obtaining tax deductions in the amount of the costs associated with moving to Luxembourg,
- mandatory medical examination for foreigners,
- initially issued for a period of 4 years or for the duration of the labor contract plus 3 months,
- during the first 2 years, a residence permit allows to work on the same profession in one sector of the economy, but for any employer. In the future, there may be a change of profession and sector of the economy,
- extended for a period of at least 2 years subject to the conditions of employment of highly qualified specialists,
- family members (spouse, registered partner and children under the age of 18) receive a residence permit with the right to work together with the EU Blue Card holder for the duration of the residence permit of the main applicant.
